The high command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has confirmed the detention of 16 military officers due to acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. This follows a routine internal exercise aimed at reinforcing professionalism and discipline among the ranks.

In a statement released yesterday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, remarked that preliminary investigations have indicated that the misconduct was primarily fuelled by grievances over career stagnation and repeated failures in promotion examinations, alongside other internal service-related matters.

The statement further revealed that some of the officers involved were already under military jurisdiction for various disciplinary offences, with a number currently awaiting or undergoing trial.

Gusau asserted that, once investigations are concluded, those found guilty will face the full brunt of military justice, in line with the established disciplinary procedures of the Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces wishes to reassure the general public that these actions are purely disciplinary and are part of ongoing efforts to uphold order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks,” the statement concluded.
