10 killed, 1 injured as bandits attack mining site in Niger State

Armed bandits have killed at least 10 people and injured one in an attack on a local mining site in Karaga Village, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Intelligence sources according to Zagazola Makama, said the attack occurred on February 26 when a large number of insurgents stormed the mining site and opened fire on workers, but we received the news on Sunday March 2 due to lack of communication.

It was gathered that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles, shooting indiscriminately before targeting miners and local residents.

The victims were identified as: Lurwsnu Saidu (32), Zubairu Ibrahim (27), Tasiu Danlami (31), Zanaidu Ibrahim (36), Haliru Ibrahim (33), Abbas Abdulhamid (40), Uzairu Ibrahim (32), Umaru Aliyu (22), Dahiru Fadama (29), and Alheri Gambo (21, the only female victim).

Another victim, Sabiu Yakubu (25), sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand and is currently receiving treatment at Erena Comprehensive Health Centre.

The sources said that the assailants are part of a terrorist network operating in Shiroro LGA, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted mining sites, villages, and security personnel in recent months.
