Former Delta State Governor and South-South Coordinator of the APC Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ifeanyi Okowa, has revealed that 1.6 million tertiary institution students have now benefitted from the Federal Government’s National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Speaking on Sunday in Asaba during a courtesy visit from the national leadership of Working People United (WPU), Okowa described the scheme as one of President Bola Tinubu’s critical reforms aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s ailing economy.

He noted that many students who initially dismissed NELFUND as fraudulent had since enrolled and were now reaping its benefits. He therefore urged remaining sceptics to take full advantage of the initiative.

“President Tinubu assumed office at a time when his service to the nation was truly needed,” Okowa stated. “I urge all Nigerians to support his reform programmes, which are beginning to address fundamental socio-economic and political challenges.”

The former governor cited state policing, electricity deregulation, and fuel subsidy removal among the administration’s transformative policies. He argued that Tinubu’s governance template warranted a second term to ensure the completion of ongoing reforms, expressing confidence that Nigerians would soon appreciate the administration’s pragmatic efforts.

Earlier, WPU National Coordinator William Akporeha informed Okowa of the group’s objectives and inaugurated its Delta State chapter. Comprising public and private sector workers, self-employed individuals, and artisans, the group pledged support for Okowa’s senatorial ambition, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s re-election, and President Tinubu’s 2027 bid.
