Women, Youths Train In Benue On Security Alert

A non Governmental Organization under the aegis of Equal Access International (EAI) has trained over Fifty Women and Youths in 3 Local Government Areas in Benue State on
Civilian Security to help in nib in the bud any security threat in their various Communities

Our Correspodent gathered that the 3 LG selected were those face with high level of security challenges in the last six years.

This is even as the Deputy Country Director, EAI Gad Peter disclosed that arrangements are concluded to established and trained Community Accountability Forum in the 3 LGs to enhance

He named the composition of the Forum to includes Women, Youths, Traditional Institutions, Religious leaders and other key persons in the affected Communities that will be meeting every Month to discuss potential Security threat and Peace in their domains.

According to him, “we selected 10 Women from each local governments of Agatu, Gwer-west, and Guma, and this Women will in turn select 10 Youths in each Communities for a peace promotion fellowship and all of them will come together as ambassadors to encourage security their Communities”

The Deputy Country Director who spoke to our correpondent during a Two day-refresher training explained that the training is to enhance Civilian Security in Communities highly affected by insecurity for a peaceful coexistence.

He said, “this Civilian Security are not license to carry guns but are always on alert to see and identify strange movement in their Communities and report them for appropriate response to nib in the bud total breakdown of Law and order through Community”

“We are using this training as an opportunity to evaluate the impact of the training we had December last year to know whether it has positively change the lives of people in their Communities for a peaceful coexistence”

“Aside Accountability Forum, we have also established Community Structures to identify early warnings which simply means if you see something, say something before the situation get out of hand”

“We have also train them on Community engagement so that they will have the capacity to engage traditional and Religious institutions, Security agencies in their localities as well as effective communication and issues of governance”

Also Speaking, a Human Right Lawyer with Lawyers Alert Barr. Vincent Eboh ESQ said as a legal Officer of an Organization that speaks for the vulnerable, they are in partnership with EAI to see how Women can be use as a bridge to bring peace in the local Communities.

“Women as we all know are home builders but when it comes to mechanism of making peace they are often excluded and this is a big mistake we are making, if the success of every home is attributed to women why do we exclude them when it comes peace meetings

“So the essence of this project is to ensure that Women and Youths are actively involved in the planing of mechanisms of Security networks of the LGs”
