In a recent address, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), commended the peaceful conduct of the recent elections, highlighting them as a testament to residents’ commitment to democracy and good governance. Wike asserted that the polls have unveiled the hypocrisy of individuals who buy corn and groundnuts from roadside sellers as a means of deceiving the electorate.
“This election has indeed shown that Nigerians now recognise the ruling party and the true opposition,” Wike stated. He further condemned those who resort to disingenuous campaigning tactics, declaring, “The election has exposed the hypocrisy of those who engage in such superficial gestures to mislead Nigerians.”
Wike’s remarks were made during a special broadcast on Sunday evening, as part of a statement penned by his media aide, Lere Olayinka. He praised the FCT residents for demonstrating their discernment, asserting that they cannot be swayed by “emergency democrats” who fail to acknowledge the positive developments in the country and its governance.
The minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, stating that the election reflects the President’s vision and leadership. “This election is a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which has instilled optimism and confidence among the people of the FCT,” Wike remarked.
He lauded President Tinubu for his commitment to enhancing the lives of FCT residents, asserting that the Renewed Hope Agenda has ushered in a brighter future. “No doubt, the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly those in the FCT, has not gone unnoticed,” he added.
Wike also commended the President for his steadfast defence of democracy, particularly his role in amending the Electoral Act to fortify the integrity of elections. This, he stated, highlights Tinubu’s dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s democratic processes.
“I extend my congratulations to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free, fair, and credible election. This reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening our democratic institutions and ensuring that electoral processes are transparent,” Wike said.
He further acknowledged the crucial role of security agencies, praising their dedication to ensuring the peaceful conduct of the elections. “Their efforts have significantly contributed to the success of this democratic exercise,” Wike noted.
However, Wike urged the newly elected officials to serve with humility and dedication. “Work tirelessly to improve the lives of residents and bring development to our communities,” he implored.
“To the residents of the FCT, particularly those in satellite towns, I commend you for your overwhelming turnout and peaceful participation. Your engagement affirms your trust in our democracy, and I encourage you to continue supporting the government in its efforts to enhance the FCT,” he concluded.
In his closing remarks, Wike reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to FCT residents, in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
