A senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr Reuben Okpanachi Atabo, has said diligence and honesty are what a lawyer needs to reach desired heights in the profession.
Atabo, who stated this in Abuja during the week, after his investiture as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, added that his elevation coming at this time, is God’s will.
“Many have been saying it’s long awaited, but I say it’s God’s time.”
He advised Junior lawyers to be honest, hardworking and diligent, saying nothing good comes easy.
“Today, I have reached the pinnacle of my career, but I see it as the beginning of a career. All lawyers aspiring to reach this height must be diligent, professional and hardworking, because nothing good comes easy.”
The head of chamber, R.O. Atabo & Co., Kaduna Office, Mrs Afolake Adeneye Esq, who described Atabo as a very pleasant boss to work with, said despite the obstacles that came along the line, the SAN stood strong and overcame them all. She said Atabo is a man of integrity with sound knowledge of the law.
“SAN Atabo is a man of integrity with sound knowledge of the law. He does not comprise and to God’s glory, all that has yielded today’s honour.
“Atabo accommodates everybody, and encourages his staff to believe in themselves. I wish him the best always.”
The wife of the newly elevated SAN, Mrs Martha Atabo said her husband is very compassionate and has never allowed money to dictate his service to clients.
“I remember the times I had told him to collect the money for me, because my husband would always tell his clients, let’s go to court first,” she mentioned.
An associate of Atabo, Mrs Amina Eleku Ahmed, said she has known him since 1985, and he has always be hardworking. She added that Atabo was one of the best in the class back then, so she expected that he would go far in the law profession.
