The president, Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Honourable Jonathan Asake has assured the people whose lands have been stolen and are occupied by assailants in Southern Kaduna that their lands will be recovered and given back to them no matter the time it will take.
Asake stated this when he visited the village head of Unguwan Madaki, Mr. Na’Allah Na’Dare to sympathise with him and his community in Kakau ward, Chikun LGA in Southern part of Kaduna State assuring them of SOKAPU’s commitment to recover all stolen lands in the region and returned them to the rightful owners.
SOKAPU visit to Unguwan Madaki was premise on attack by some assailants whom the locals described as armed Fulani militia numbering in their hundreds who stormed the community in gorilla’s style, maimed and kidnapped some members of the community on 18 June, 2021.
According to the community when SOKAPU visited, a serving police officer, whose name was not disclosed and a 10-year-old girl, Ms Yossie Timothy Ayuba were shot dead during the attack.
They told SOKAPU that over 26 persons were kidnapped, including two wives of the village head – Ruth Na’Alla and Blessing Na’Alla – his three children, and parent of Yossie Timothy – the 10-year-old girl killed during the attack.
Intimating SOKAPU on how the attack happened, the locals narrated that the attackers stormed the village in gorilla style at 10pm and operated for about 45 minutes, adding that the local vigilante who tried to repel the attack were overpowered, as the assailants attacked the community with sophisticated weapons.
According to SOKAPU president to the village head “I have come here on behalf of Southern Kaduna people to show our sadness and anger over the incessant attacks, mass murder and mass abduction of our people.
“In Kakau, not far from here, 61 persons were kidnapped the past three days and at least two killed. In Libere, in Kallah Ward, Kajuru LGA in Southern part of Kaduna, 76 Adara natives were kidnapped since 22nd May, 2021.
“What is even more disturbing is that Kaduna State government has refused to acknowledge and document all these crimes in its daily ‘Security Updates’ usually signed by Kaduna State Commissioner of Home Security and Internal Affairs, Samuel Aruwan,” SOKAPU boss said.
SOKAPU, in strong terms condemns all acts of violent crimes against anyone or community, adding that it was alright for Samuel Aruwan to carry along with top brass military officers, Kaduna State commissioner of police among others to condole the Emir of Zaria, HRH Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, over the killing of a student of Kaduna State Polytechnic and the kidnapped of some other persons under Zaria Emirate.
SOKAPU boss however wonder why there is no record where Aruwan extended such gesture to traditional rulers, elders or leaders in Southern Kaduna despite the huge losses in lives and property that the area have suffered over the years.
He noted that apart from the mass abduction of Southern Kaduna natives, scores of Southern Kaduna lands have been captured and are occupied by armed herdsmen with government doing nothing to recover them and return the displaced owners.
“I want to assure you that we or our children shall recover every inch of Southern Kaduna land occupied by these criminals. We shall use every means humanly possible available to reclaimed our lands and return them to its rightful owners.
“It is just a matter of time. We shall get back these lands. These criminals and all those who backed them shall also be brought to justice one day. This is just a phase,” SOKAPU president added.
While thanking the SOKAPU President, the village head expressed gratitude over the kind gesture the village enjoyed in the past from SOKAPU.
