VSF Commences Distribution Of Palliatives To 5,272 Households In Benue

Leadership of the  Victims Support Funds Taskforce on COVID-19 VSF has commenced the Distribution of assorted food and non food materials to over Five Thousand Two Hundred and Seventy Two (5,272) vulnerable household in Benue state to alleviate their plight in the second wave of COVID-19 Pandemic.

This is even as the chairperson of  team Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji,  also disclosed that they will soon be commencing the support for the Federal Government’s Re-opening of Schools across the Six Geopolitical zones across the country.

According to her, Fifty- Four Schools across 18 States will be supported with Solar Powered Boreholes, Automatic Soap and Water Dispensers to ease the plight of communities without water to also engage effectively in washing of hands in every 30 seconds as stipulated by National Centre For Disease Control (NCDC)

Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji,  Who disclosed this during a symbolic presentation of the items to the Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said the flagging off of the Distribution in Benue is in recognition of the State as the Food Basket of the Nation.

She explained that the  third phase of the distribution of this itemd in the  North Central and North West is worth N1. 5billion.

“While we are supporting the the FG School gradual re- opening of schools is that most of the Communities do not have access to running waters and this is contained in the recent statistics of Water Aid and UNICEF where it is stated that only 19 percent of Nigeria population have access to running and portable water and going by the NDCD pronouncement of constantly washing of hands in every 30 seconds we will be excluding 90 percent of the population”

According to her, “the  flagging off of the North Central Palliatives in Benue state  took into cognizance the economic potentials and Contributions of Benue as the food basket of the nation to ensure food security in the country”

“We  are aware of the State’s Contributions to keep the country free of hunger and the value of what we are donating to the Benu today is worth N107,900 00 million of assorted food and non food Items  which will be Distributed to the poorest of the poor in the hinter and hard to reach commutters with the state”

She also informed that the palliatives which is meant for selected Seven States  across the six Geopolitical zones of the country ravaged by insurgency and invasion of Herdsmen attacks especially those that have lost their means of livelihood.

Receiving the items,  Governor Ortom, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Prof  Anthony Ijorho commended the Gen. TY Danjuma led Humanitarian taskforce which he said has been assisting the state since 2018 invasion of the herdsmen.

The Governor assured VSF of the immediate Distribution of the items to the intended audience within the stipulated time frame, urging them to sustained the tempo of catering for the less privilege.
