US President Donald Trump has issued a “three to four days” deadline to Hamas to accept his proposed peace deal with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Trump at the White House on Monday.

Ahead of Netanyahu’s arrival at the White House, the Trump administration released a 20-point roadmap for peace in Gaza.

The plan includes an immediate end to military operations and the release of all hostages within 72 hours.

It also details that Hamas would have no governing role in Gaza. Instead, the enclave would be governed by a “technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee” and a “board of peace” made up of international leaders.

In a joint press conference after the meeting, Netanyahu expressed support for the plan.

Hamas has yet to agree to the plan, but Qatari officials are understood to be in the ongoing discussions.

On Tuesday, Trump told reporters that he is giving Hamas “three to four days” to respond to the Gaza peace plan.

“We’re going to do about three or four days. We’ll see how it is. All of the Arab countries are signed up. The Muslim countries are all signed up. Israel is all signed up,” the US president said.

Trump warned that it would be a “very sad end” if Hamas rejects the deal.

After Monday’s meeting, Trump said Netanyahu would have his “full backing” to carry out any actions if Hamas failed to accept the proposal.

A senior Hamas official told the BBC that the group are likely to reject Trump’s proposal.

The official said the peace deal plan “serves Israel’s interests” and “ignores those of the Palestinian people”.
