The fight against criminal elements in Nigeria reached a significant milestone on Saturday 22nd July 2023, as troops of 63 Bde Garrison, operating under the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army and with the support of the Department of State Services (DSS), carried out a successful Clearance Operation in Asaba, Delta State.

Their primary target was the eradication of an enclave belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN).

This operation comes as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.

In the early hours of the day, the gallant troops conducted a daring raid on the heavily fortified enclave, nestled within a forested high ground.

Faced with the resolute and determined soldiers, the IPOB fighters attempted to put up a fight, but they were no match for the well-trained and equipped Nigerian troops.

In the fierce exchange of fire that ensued, the IPOB fighters were left with no option but to abandon their stronghold and flee in disarray.

During the operation, the troops managed to apprehend one of the fleeing fighters.

This arrest will prove crucial in gathering intelligence and disrupting the activities of the proscribed group further.

Moreover, the operation yielded a significant seizure of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The recovered arsenal includes five AK 47 Rifles, three Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifles, one G3 Rifle, and one single barrel gun. Alongside these weapons, the troops discovered Live Cartridges, Electric Saw, Machetes, an Axe, and an IPOB flag, providing concrete evidence of the group’s involvement in illicit activities.

Having successfully neutralized the IPOB/ESN enclave, the troops took decisive action in obliterating the stronghold to prevent any future use by criminal elements.

The destruction of the base ensures that it can no longer serve as a safe haven for unlawful activities.

Additionally, the Nigerian troops are relentlessly pursuing the fleeing fighters, extending their operations into the forested area to ensure that all perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.

The audacious efforts of the troops, coupled with their coordination with other security agencies, have garnered praise from Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff.

He lauded the dedication and bravery demonstrated by the troops and encouraged them to maintain the momentum in their mission to restore peace and sanity to the region.

The relentless pursuit of these outlawed groups by the joint forces of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services sends a strong message that criminal activities will not be tolerated.

As the nation continues its efforts to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, this operation serves as a beacon of hope for a peaceful and prosperous future.
