Taraba State government has pleaded with the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to provide assistance to flood-ravaged communities across the state.

The state deputy governor, Aminu Alkali, made this appeal on Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, while hosting the management team of the Commission.

He expressed concern over the devastating effects of the recent floods, which resulted in the collapse of major bridges linking the northern and southern parts of the State.

According to him, “I wish to request that as you assess your projects around the state, you should also visit the flooded areas, especially the two bridges, and assist in any way you can to enable the government fix them.

“The complete collapse of one of the bridges has created significant hardship not only for people within the area but for the entire state.

“We also wish to appeal that the commission should always consult with the state government before siting projects.

“The idea is to ensure that all projects align with the needs of the immediate communities.”

Earlier in his address, the Managing Director of NEDC, Muhammad Alkali, informed the deputy governor that the management team of the commission was in the state for a project oversight visit.

The MD also assured that the commission, while ensuring the completion of its ongoing projects, would initiate projects that have a direct impact on the immediate communities.
