Following the uncertainty that surrounded the relationship between that existed between the Northern Central Vice President of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mohammed Dan-musa and the Nasarawa State Chairman of the association, Emmanuel Cheke, and the NUJ SWAN imbogrilio, the Cheke led SWAN Executive have been dissolved with immediate effect.
Consequently, a 5-man caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of SWAN in Nasarawa has been constituted pending an election would be conducted, with Isa Mohammed of NTA chapel as the caretaker Chairman.
Cheke was alleged of insubordination, high-handedness, abuse of office and refusal to comply with directives to conduct election of new officials.
Cheke who assumed office of the state Chairman in 2917 was also alleged not carrying members of the association along, as well as refusing to register new persons willing to join the association.
The dissolved state SWAN Executive led by Cheke were also accused of not remitting dues to national body of SWAN.
The crisis which started in late 2018, had led to why some officials and members of SWAN left the association, as they could not contained with the leadership style of Cheke.
In a letter to the National President of SWAN dated 18 December, 2020 reads as follows; “You would recall that I identified four state in my zone, Nasarawa, Banue, Niger and Platue state whose tenue expired and are due for election.
“My submission along others from other zones prompted the National Executive Committee (NEC) at the last meeting in Abuja on the 11th December 2020 to direct all state whose tenure have been expired to commence a process of conducting elections on or before 31st March 2020
“While Niger and Pleatue State have commenced there processes, the Nasarawa State Chairman who has resorted to operate as a loan ranger vehemently disregarded directives to call a Congress (he has not held a Congress since his elections about three years ago) leading to the disruption of the process of reconciling with misinformed members of the association that have expressed willingness to return to the fold, with many already commencing their registration processes.
“After due consultations the exco in Nasarawa chapter which tenure expired on the 18th March, 2020 was dissolved on Friday December 2020”, and a care taker committee is setup to that effect.
The committee led by Isam Mohammed are expected to conduct election into various offices of SWAN in the state.
Other members of the committee included Umar Mohammed of Punch newspaper, Olukayode Babalola of NAN, Ibrahim Yakubu of Precious FM and Smah George of NBS Lafia.
