Senators on Wednesday called for the establiment of federal colleges of education in the 109 Senatorial Districts of the country.
According to the Senators, the establiment of the College of Education in all the Senatorial Districts will give opportunity to Nigerians that can’t get university degree admission.
Speaking at the public hearing for the establiment of Federal College of Education Gwoza, Borno state and that of Federal College of Education Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti state, the Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, said there should be colleges of Education in all the Senatorial Districts.
“With N1 billion voted for each Senatorial District, we can have federal college of education in all the Senatorial Districts.
“So, a budget of N110 billion can take care of the establiment of all the federal College of Educations. This will enable the country to train the teachers to will inturn teach our children.
“Education should be fundamental after after security. When some charlatans are saying education is not good, it is the reason we should establish more tertiary institutions to prove them wrong, ” Ndume said stating that it is the reason he want a federal college of education in Gwoza.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Biodun Olujimi said the only way the government can absolved the youths coming out of secondary school is to establiment College of Education in all the Senatorial Districts.
“We have 68 secondary schools in my Senatorial District and university cannot absolved the youths coming out of this schools. All Senatorial Districts in the country should have one federal College of Education, ” Olujimi said.
Other speakers during the public hearing advocated for the establishment of federal colleges of education in all the Senatorial Districts of the country.
