Presidency Attacks Ango Abdullahi, Says He Is A ‘Paper Tiger’

By Henry Gabriel  –
The presidency has reacted to a statement issued by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and signed by it’s convener, Ango Abdullahi, describing him as a paper  tiger and a general without a troop.
NEF had said that president Muhammadu Buhari’s government has failed the country on security and poverty eradication adding that the administration has no clue of resolving the current insecurity and poverty ravaging the country.
But in a swift reaction, the presidency said hearing that title, Northern Elders Forum, one will think the body was a conglomeration of true elders, insisting Ango Abdullahi was just a lone voice under a big name.
The presidency failed to list some of the efforts of the Buhari’s administration in tackling insecurity and poverty but was quick on attacking back the former Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
A statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Sunday, the presidency said Nigerians know the true state of the nation and don’t need a paper tiger to tell them anything.
“Professor Ango Abdullahi on Sunday signed a long-winding statement on many issues relating to the North, and purportedly to the country.
“The former vice chancellor signed the statement under the banner of Northern Elders Forum (NEF). Hearing that title, you would think the body was a conglomeration of true elders. But the truth is that  NEF is just Ango Abdullahi, and Ango Abdullahi is NEF. It is a quasi-organization that boasts of no credible membership, and its leader is akin to a General without troops,” the statement said.
It added: “Before the 2019 presidential election, the one-man army called NEF had shown its antipathy against President Muhammadu Buhari, and its preference for another candidate. They all got beaten together.
“NEF is merely waving a flag that is at half-mast. President Buhari steadily and steadfastly focuses on the task of retooling Nigeria, and discerning Nigerians know the true state of the nation. They don’t need a paper tiger to tell them anything,” the statement added.
