Two Hundred and Twenty Eight Amputees in Benue State have received free Artificial Limbs courtesy of a non Governmental Organization under aegis of ISHK TOLARAM Foundation.
The Head Of Department ISHK LIMB CENTRE, Mr Bidlan Jaiprakash who disclosed this during the presentation informed that over 17,000 persons with various kind of amputees have already benefitted from the programme across the country since its inception in 2009.
He explained that ISHK LIMB CENTRE is currently working in Benue in collaboration with the State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other NGOs to donate Limbs to Amputees, without paying a dime, adding that the programme will be on, for next two years
According to him, “the Organization has established 67 camps across the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT and the programme is going to be on in the next Two years so that as many as the Amputees avail themselves they will be given the Limbs”
“we have been working in Nigeria since 2009 across all the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory to provide Limbs for amputees free of charge especially those who cannot travel to our head offices in Lagos and Port- Harcourt so as to those ease their plight”
Also Speaking, the National President Centre For Advocacy For Persons With Disability, Mrs Ellen Thompson lamented the Psychological trauma most of the Amputees go through because most of them are being neglected by their families, friends and even Communities, adding that with the donation of the artificial Limbs to them, they will be Integrated into the society to fend for themselves instead of begging for alms on the streets.
While commending ISHK Foundation for bringing life back to Amputees, Mrs Thompson Said “no nation can develop without carrying the vulnerable people along and proper implementation of disability treaties in the best practise”
Earlier, the State Chairman CAN Rev. Augustine Akpen Leva, said, he was moved to seek help from the NGO, when he discovered that the Herdsmen attacks on Benue Citizens which has left so many people with various forms of amputation.
Rev. Leva also promised to ensure the sustainability of the State partnership with the Organization so that many of the Amputees suffering in silence will be reach to come out and benefit from the Foundation’s free artificial Limbs.
