No fewer than 250 youths have been trained on fish farming in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

The training was organized by the Nigeria Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), Lagos.

Speaking at the closing ceremony in Kagoro, the Executive Director, NIOMR, Dr Abiodun Sule said the training programme will in no small way, improve the local economy and the state GDP.

Dr. Sule, who was represented by the Chief Research Officer of the Institute, Ayaobu-Cookey said they have trained the youth on integrated Rice-Cum fish farming, fish-feed formulation, production as well as packaging and marketing.

The Director, who maintained that training youth and women sustains the generation, urged the beneficiaries to develop the spirit of entrepreneurship by putting into practice what they have garnered from the training.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the member representing Kaura Federal Constituency, at the National Assembly, Gideon Gwani who sponsored the training said, the programme was aimed at promoting agriculture and self-sufficiency among the youth.

Represented by Mr Lucas Zamani (Dan Iyan Kagoro), Gwani, who is also the Minority Whip added that the empowerment programme is in line with the objective of grooming the youth to become job-creators, rather than job-seekers, therefore, advised them to make good use of the rare opportunity.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Donatus Shemang promised to make use of the training for self empowerment and to replicate the gesture to their younger ones as the Institute taught them well on how to turn fish production into money making business.
