In just over 100 days since assuming the role of Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla has propelled the Nigeria Navy to unprecedented heights, safeguarding national assets and reshaping the maritime landscape.
Under Vice-Admiral Ogalla’s leadership, the Nigeria Navy has witnessed a remarkable surge in local and international operations, with a dedicated focus on protecting over 19 trillion National Assets at sea.
Ogalla’s swift response to piracy and criminal activities has significantly bolstered Nigeria’s economic resilience against threats from various quarters.
Addressing the menace of piracy head-on, Ogalla’s strategic initiatives include comprehensive programs and a roadmap to secure a prosperous maritime future for Nigeria.
The Navy, under his guidance, has thwarted criminal elements and their collaborators, presenting a formidable front against economic saboteurs.
Ogalla’s vision encompasses a solid foundation built on training and retraining, both locally and internationally.
Joint and inter-agency trainings have elevated the Navy’s capabilities, fostering collaborations that strengthen the force.
The emphasis on “Zero Tolerance for COT” reflects Ogalla’s commitment to eradicating non-state actors and economic saboteurs.
The Navy, under Ogalla’s strategic direction, has achieved significant milestones, uncovering 700 illegal refineries and confiscating 803 barrels of stolen crude, valued at billions.
Interception efforts led to the capture of 5 barges, 690 boats, and 116 speed boats, disrupting criminal activities.
The arrest of 232 suspects and the confiscation of operational vehicles, trucks, and refined products demonstrate the Navy’s unwavering dedication.
Ogalla’s proactive approach extends beyond maritime security, addressing drug-related crimes.
The Navy, within months, has seized 692 kilograms of cannabis sativa, worth 1.3 billion, discouraging drug pushers utilizing the high sea for illicit activities.
Less than a year into Vice-Admiral Ogalla’s leadership, the Nigeria Navy is witnessing a transformative shift, laying the foundation for a more robust and resilient force.
The ongoing reforms position the Navy to excel in its statutory functions and national assignments, securing the nation against both local and international threats.
