The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command wishes to inform the general public that CP Dantawaye Miller, psc, has officially assumed duty as the 34th Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, today, the 17th of October, 2025. He succeeds CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, who has been redeployed for another strategic national assignment by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.
CP Dantawaye Miller, psc, is a seasoned and highly decorated police officer with over two decades of dedicated and meritorious service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large. Born on 15th October 1971 into the family of Late Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gajere Dantawaye, he hails from Afogo in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. His academic and professional journey reflects a blend of discipline, leadership, and intellectual depth.
He began his primary education at St. Williams Primary School, Ilorin, Kwara State, before transferring to Nuhu Primary School, Kankiya, Katsina State. He later attended Government College, Katsina, and subsequently Federal Government College, Enugu, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1989. CP Miller holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna State Polytechnic, Zaria, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s Degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
CP Dantawaye Miller was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in May 2000, as part of the 20th Cadet ASP Course. Upon his successful completion of the rigorous training and passing-out parade in 2001, he was posted to the Bayelsa State Police Command in January 2002, marking the beginning of an illustrious policing career that has spanned multiple commands, formations, and leadership positions across Nigeria.
Over the years, CP Miller has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, administrative competence, and operational expertise. He has served in several strategic and command roles including Divisional Crime Officer, ‘A’ Division, Yenagoa; Acting Aide-de-Camp to the then Governor of Bayelsa State; Escort Commander to the then Vice President; Chief Security Officer, Ministry of Petroleum; Commanding Officer, MOPOL 24 – Presidential Villa; and Escort Commander to the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His career progression also includes senior operational and investigative roles. He has served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the FCT Police Command, Area Commander in Karewa, Adamawa State, and Assistant Commissioner (Criminal Investigation Department) in the Oyo State Command. He later rose to become the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in both Yobe and Edo State Commands. Before his recent deployment to the FCT, he served as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Information Technology (IT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and most recently as the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, where he was widely commended for his innovative leadership and proactive approach to security management.
A consummate and forward-thinking officer, CP Miller has enriched his policing expertise through numerous professional courses both locally and internationally. These include the Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism Course at Gwoza, Maiduguri; Leadership and Management Training at Shere Hills, Jos; the VVIP Protection Course in Ginegal, Israel; and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the prestigious Police Staff College, Jos. These diverse training programs have honed his tactical acumen and leadership skills, enabling him to handle complex security situations with precision and tact.
CP Dantawaye Miller is also an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and a proud member of Rotary International, where he is known for his strong advocacy for service, integrity, and community development. His participation in Rotary has earned him wide respect among professionals and service-minded citizens across Nigeria.
Beyond policing, CP Miller is known for his passion for innovation, strategic thinking, and community engagement. He enjoys reading, music, driving, and travelling. He is a devout Christian, happily married, and blessed with children.
As he assumes office as the 34th Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Dantawaye Miller has pledged to consolidate on the existing security architecture of the FCT, strengthen intelligence-led policing, and foster stronger community-police partnerships. He emphasized his commitment to enhancing public safety, improving response time to distress calls, and deepening collaboration with local communities, traditional institutions, and security stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property within the FCT.
The FCT Police Command, under his leadership, will continue to uphold professionalism, transparency, and accountability in all policing activities. CP Miller has assured residents that the Command will intensify operations against crime and criminality while promoting trust and mutual respect between the police and the people.
