American rapper Nicki Minaj is scheduled to speak at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, where she is expected to spotlight what she describes as rising attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Minaj, legally known as Onika Maraj-Petty, will appear alongside U.S. officials who have repeatedly raised alarms over faith-related violence in the West African nation. She is expected to join the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, as well as Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Organisers say the event aims to amplify concerns about alleged jihadist violence targeting Christian communities across Nigeria.

News of Minaj’s participation first surfaced after a senior U.S. political correspondent revealed the planned meeting on social media. Ambassador Waltz later confirmed the development and commended the rapper for what he described as her courage and willingness to “speak out against injustice,” noting that few high-profile celebrities have addressed the issue so directly.

Reacting to the announcement, Minaj expressed gratitude for the invitation, describing it as an honour. She said she would “never stand down in the face of injustice,” adding that speaking up on human rights matters is a responsibility she takes seriously.

Her involvement comes days after Trump claimed Nigeria is experiencing a “Christian genocide” and announced his intention to designate the country as a “Country of Particular Concern.” He also urged U.S. lawmakers to act swiftly. Minaj publicly supported his remarks, insisting it was important for global leaders to acknowledge the situation.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has repeatedly rejected allegations of religious persecution, maintaining that the country’s security challenges stem from criminal, economic and political factors rather than religious motives.

Nevertheless, U.S. officials continue to raise the issue on international platforms, keeping it in global focus.
