NDLEA Arrests 386 Drug Suspects In Nasarawa

A total of 386 suspected drug traffickers have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in Nasarawa State.

Commandant of the agency in the state, Mr. Justice Arinze, made this disclosure in Lafia, the state capital, to mark the United Nations ‘Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking’.

The suspects he said we’re arrested with drugs such as Cannabis, Heroin, Cocaine and Psychotrapic substance such as Tramadol, Codeine, Rophynol, Pentazocine and others.

He disclosed that 302 drug users were counselled and rehabilitated, while 37 drug dealers were prosecuted and convicted at the Federal High Court, Lafia.

Arinze, who disclosed that the agency have changed last four years topic from “Listen First and Health For Justice, Justice For Health” said this year’s theme is ” Better Knowledge for Better Care”.

He said the essence of the day is for member Nations to review their control efforts with a view to determining the best way forward.

He said within the period under review, 12 tons of Narcotic drugs and Psychotrapic Substances were publicly destroyed in the state.

“This ever public destruction of drugs exhibits in Nasarawa State, since inception of the state command consist of drugs recovered from drug dealers”.

“Permit to state that the public destruction of drug exhibit is one of the Agency’s strategies to permanently take drugs out of circulation” he said.
