NBBF Crisis: Group Blast Sports Ministry  For Taking Over NBBF Duties

Friends of Nigeria Sports have come out blasting again as it accused the sports ministry of taking over the roles and duties of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
This latest outrage was premised on the blatant actions of the sports ministry to select players and officials to represent Nigeria at the FIBA qualifiers in Angola without a recourse to Engr. Musa Kida who remains the recognized NBBF president for his inputs and official seal.
According to the press release signed by Asiwaju Akeem Busari,; the latest move to disregard FIBA’s warnings is a pointer to its earlier cries that some top sports ministry officials are behind the unfortunate crisis rocking the NBBF.
“We are not surprised by the blatant disregard for directives from FIBA by officials of the sports ministry, particularly, the shameful roles of the secretary general who has continued to play the roles of a de-facto president of NBBF.
“Finally, Nigerians must come to terms with the realities on ground and the reasons why the problems of Nigerian basketball are far from been solved. The same ministry -that has been unable to pay for the past trips of the NBBF, all of a sudden have funds available for Angola.
FSN, also described as unfortunate, some names of officials on the list to Angola. It pointedly stated Isa Umar who is designated as team manager was a disgruntled member of the Musa Kida led board who fell out with the board because of his  selfish desire to get the position.
“Another member of the delegation is NBBF 3×3 chairman, Frank Jituboh, who is being compensated for contributing money to host the Men’s Final 8 organized by FMYS.
FNS also regretted the choice of Julius Nwosu as head coach of the team. It stated that Nwosu is without a FIBA coaching licence.
“The head coach Julius Nwosu is without a FIBA coaching license. But since it’s a jamboree for the ministry, they can as well try their luck and see if he would be allowed to lead. Nigerians should know that Julius Nwosu doesn’t coach anywhere in the world.
” Hopefully stakeholders can now see that all this infighting are all for personal gains. Other members of delegation we know are there for the estacode. They virtually have no functions or roles to play in Angola. Unfortunately, Angola is not a good destination for Christmas shopping.
” Nigerians must also be mindful that this recent list all over the internet has nothing to do with NBBF. It is purely the machinations of the ministry and secretary General, Mrs. Bisi Afolabi.
“As patriots, we wish the D’Tigers all the best. But concerned Nigerians and genuine stakeholders must open their eyes to see who the real enemies are.
“The reason why the ministry insisted on taking over basketball, even as FIBA warned against such is for the purposes of executing this world cup qualifiers in Angola, for the lucre that comes with it,” FSN concluded.
