The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), has commenced a two-day training workshop for its staff preparatory to the forth coming local government election scheduled between April and May this year.
The workshop with the theme “The Conduct of Credible Election into Local Government Councils”, was held at the conference hall of the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Lafia
Governor Sule, Friday declared the training workshop opened, said it was aptly conceived as it resonated with his administration’s determination to uphold the tenets of democracy.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, the governor said: “Today’s event afford us the opportunity to build the capacity of our electoral administrators and other staff of the commission with the current trend and technical know-how in order to galvanize our efforts towards sustainable development.
“It is in this wise that I consider this training workshop timely moreso that the commission is preparing towards the conduct of local government council elections in the state.”
He told participants that the training workshop was geared towards further engaging them to the imperatives of the vision and mission of his administration to enable them play the roles that are expected of them as an independent body.
Earlier in a welcome address, NASIEC chairman, Barrister Ayuba Wandai Usman, said as the state prepared for the forth coming council polls, the commission was fully committed to deliver on its mandate in the most responsible manner.
“The need for our staff to be carried along in our robust preparation to succeed has become even more imperative, hence the need for this training workshop,” the NASIEC boss maintained.
