The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping and rape within the last two weeks.
Commissioner of Police in the state Mr Bola Longe, while parading the suspects yesterday in Lafia, said among them was leader of a kidnap gang that abducted the state Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Joseph Masin and a Deputy High Court Registrar recently.
Longe said 21 of the suspects were arrested for armed robbery while six were for kidnapping.
He stated that the arrests followed intensive raid on criminal hideouts through discrete intelligence gathering and information received from members of the public.
The Police Commissioner pointed out that the suspects were apprehended at various locations in Nasarawa, Toto, Karu, Akwanga, Obi, Keana and Awe local government areas.
He enjoined residents of the state to continue to work closely with the police by obliging information to make the state unfavourable for criminal elements to execute their neferous activities.
“On 9/7/2020 at about 0800hrs, based on information, police personnel at Jankwe division led by the divisional police officer raided the hideout of suspected armed robbers who blocked the road at Akaleku village, along Lafia-Makurdi road where they robbed some passengers of their belongings” he said.
