NAMCS Engages 1,300 Farmers In Bauchi

The National Agricultural Mechanised Cooperative Society, NAMCS has engaged 1,300 farmers to benefit from its five-tier projects in Bauchi State.

The National President of the society Dr Aliyu Muhammad Waziri Said this in Bauchi during launching of its poultry farming project in the state.

The President explained that the poultry farming project was designed to capture 65 people from each local government area of Bauchi State.

He said the National Agricultural Mechanised Cooperative Society will shoulder the financial burden of constructing a 1000 capacity poultry farm for each of the women selected for the project, adding that NAMCS will provide feeds for the chickens.

Dr Waziri explained that NAMCS is the sole up-taker of the chickens which would be reared for a maximum of six weeks with each farm owner pocketing 150,000 naira at the end of every six weeks.

He explained that traditional rulers are at the center of poultry farm projects for being closer to the people, insisting that traditional rulers in all the 20 local governments must identify each beneficiary as belonging to their domain.

The President said selected women will be rigorously trained and certified in poultry farm management before they will be finally engaged by NAMCS.

Bauchi State Coordinator National Agricultural Mechanised Cooperative Society Fatimah Gidado said the five projects are to create employment opportunities for youths especially those in rural communities so as to boost their standard of living.

She said NAMCS was designed to engage 25k farmers in each local government of the federation.

The Coordinator said with NAMCS projects, Nigeria is on the verge of achieving self-sufficiency in food production as well as becoming major exporter of Agricultural produce in Africa.
