Nigerian singer Naira Marley has formally requested an apology from actress Iyabo Ojo, following allegations of defamation. The controversy stems from the mysterious death of Mohbad, Marley’s former label signee, on September 12.
Ojo implicated Marley in the incident, accusing him of involvement and even claiming he spiked her children’s food and drinks during visits to his residence.
Marley, alongside his associate Sam Larry, faced legal consequences with an arrest in October but secured release on bail in November after more than five weeks in detention.
In a letter issued by Marley’s legal team on Tuesday, he deemed Ojo’s statements “false and damaging” and insisted on a retraction and public apology on her Instagram page and in a national daily within seven days.
The letter emphasized the serious libel and reputational damage caused by Ojo’s public remarks. Marley’s lawyers warned of potential legal action seeking N500 million in damages if Ojo fails to comply with the demands.
