Dozens of terrorists have reportedly been killed by the Nigerian Air Force during airstrikes on the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

The Defence Headquarters said air interdiction missions carried out by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole had continued to deal decisive blows on the terrorist elements in the Northeast.

The Coordinator of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, in a statement on Tuesday evening said NAF jets bombed ‘S’ region in the heart of the Sambisa Forest on Monday.

The statement was titled, “Air Task Force destroys hideout, neutralises several terrorists at Sambisa Forest, Borno State.”

Enenche said: “The airstrike, which was executed employing a force package of Nigerian Air Force fighter jets, was carried out after series of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions revealed that the terrorists responsible for recent attacks in the Southern part of Borno and Northern part of Adamawa State had originated from the location, the statement stated.”

He explained that NAF attack aircraft engaged the target area in successive passes, leading to the destruction of some of their structures and logistics stores, including a suspected anti-aircraft gun station as the terrorists fired at the NAF aircraft.

He said various terrorists were also neutralised in the process, adding, “A 53-second footage showed the aircraft dropping bombs on the target location.”
