A group, the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), has condemned alleged ongoing killings in Ijaw communities in Akwa Ibom State.
Describing the ugly development as “devilish, barbaric, illegal and highly uncivil”, the group called on all warring communities to sheath their sword.
MOSIEND, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, alleged that the immediate-past Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel was being behind the crisis.
The statement, which was signed by the group’s national president, Kennedy West, warned that no Ijaw community in Akwa Ibom should be taken for granted.
It reads in part: “The Movement for The Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationalities in the Niger Delta–MOSIEND is saddened by the level of wanton killing and the gory of corpses loitering the soil of Ijaw communities in their primes in Akwa Ibom State.
“This barbaric act was orchestrated by the immediate governor, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel using the instrumentalities of government machineries few days before his exit.
“The act is devilish, barbaric, illegal and highly uncivil. We condemn it in entirety. We warned that no Ijaw community in Akwa Ibom should be taken for granted.
“Indeed, a right thinking governor cannot leave behind such urgly and un peaceful state of mind penultimate his exit. His predecessors meant well for the State.
“His illegal Remapping and balkanization which has already failed speaks volumes of horrendous act on this very section of the people he insidiously governed.
“However, MOSIEND is using this medium to appeal to all Waring Communities to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign. Mr Udom, the Jonah is out of the boat. We thank God for the new government in the State.
“While congratulating Pastor Umoh Eno for assumption as governor of Akwa Ibom State, it is also our believe that he will live on a path of peace which he has began the process.
“As God fearing governor his posterity will be felt on the sand of peace, freedom, transparency and progress for all in the State. We urge him never to follow any wicked trend left behind as a gift for the people.”
