At least six terrorists were killed by angry mobs in Sanga and Lere Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria on Thursday, the state government said.

Samuel Aruwan, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs said two gunmen who attacked a businessman and dispossessed him of his money and other valuables were overpowered by the locals who later set them ablaze.

Aruwan said the incident happened at Fadan Karshi Community in Sanga Local Government, adding that a joint team of military and police that received a distress call arrived at the place when the gunmen had already been burnt by the mob.

He added that in the same local government on Thursday night, some armed men opened fire on motorists plying the Aboro-Kafanchan Road.

“The bullets hit one Richard Sabo who in the course of driving knocked down one of the armed men to death. Sadly, Sabo who suffered bullet wounds was confirmed dead at Gwantu General Hospital, the Commissioner explained,” Aruwan said.

He further explained that in Lere Local Government Area, security agencies reported that some terrorists from a neighboring state who specialized in stealing livestock were also killed through mob action.

According to him, the terrorists were chased and overpowered at Domawa village where three of them met their end in the hands of the mob.

“On a sad note, the government is in receipt of a report of the killing of a commercial motorcyclist, one Hudu Yahaya of Ungwan Nungu village of Sanga Local Government. He was beheaded by bandits who escaped with his motorcycle,” he said.

He noted that Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State has sent condolences to the families of Richard Sabo and Hudu Yahaya and prayed for the repose of their souls.

Aruwan said El- Rufa’i also made a strong appeal to citizens to continue to have recourse to the law and not resort to jungle justice.
