Governor Abba Yusuf has granted approval for the distribution of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 1,600 newly recruited watchmen assigned to secondary schools throughout the state.
This announcement was made in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, on Wednesday.
Mr Yusuf described the appointments as a significant step towards restoring safety, discipline, and stability in public schools.
He explained that providing a secure environment for students, teachers, and school facilities remains a top priority for his administration, emphasising that learning cannot flourish where safety is at risk.
The governor stated that the watchmen would play a crucial role in safeguarding school premises, monitoring unauthorised activities, and ensuring the smooth operation of academic programmes.
He commended the education ministry and the management of the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board for their dedication to implementing government directives.
Mr Yusuf urged the newly appointed watchmen to carry out their duties with vigilance, discipline, and integrity.
