Market Crisis: Iyaloja, Oba Seek For Peace

The Iyaloja General of Nigeria Mrs Folashade Tinubu-Ojo and the Oniba of Iba Kingdom HRM Oba Sulaimon Adesina has intervened in the prolonged leadership crisis in the Alaba- Rago market.

This came up when the Iyaloja visited the Palace of the Oba.

The meeting consisted of stakeholders with a large portion of Hausa traders, the aggrieved complainants.

The Iyaloja who intervened in the crisis, said the reason she made Malami Malami Ibrahim Ali the Chairman of the Market was because the Seriki is as old as her father, Bola Tinubu.

“I can’t direct an old man to run various errands. When I became Iyaloja General I decided that I won’t make anyone above 70 Babaloja,” she said.

“I directed that nobody should collect money from anyone, but I have been hearing rumours of people collecting Money and I decided to go to the market myself to do my investigations. I went with the Malami and Alhaji Rasak the Baba Oja General Alausa. On getting there, we saw someone collecting money while wielding a very sharp cutlass. We asked him who directed him to collect money, he said the Waziri, the Waziri is an office member of the Seriki, ” she said.

The Iyaloja promised to create a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the market util the issue is resolved.

On his part, Oba Sulaimon Adesina also appealed to the traders to embrace peace.

“Remember what I said in the last meeting. The land belongs to the government. If you keep fighting and the government interfere you will all leave. Malami is not the problem, he is not my relative, you all are fighting for power. Remember, you all came from one place to hustle for daily bread in Lagos,” the Oba said.

The chairman, Paper section in the market, Alhaji Amisu (Tenten) said the problem they have in the market is leadership.

“Since Malami Ibrahim Ali (Iyaloja’s boy) became chairman, there have been no peace on revenue collection.

“We the Alaba people don’t want Malami. We are ready to cooperate with the Iyaloja to chose anyone among us,” he said.

The Chairman of Okada, Ojo zone, Alhaji Usman …. accused Malami and his boys of burgling his shops and carted away N23 million adding that N7 million out of the money was his own.

The Sarki of the market, Alhaji Umahru Magogo said he warned Iyaloja of problems that might occur if Malami becomes the chairman of the market.

“Iyaloja knows me better than Malami. When this issue happened, i told her it might cause problems but she insisted. I was asked to bring three people to work with Malami. I was sick at a point and when I returned, Malami said there is no more Seriki, that he is the new Seriki. That’s where the issues started and Malami doesn’t carry me along anymore,” he added.
