LG Staff Set Self Ablaze In Benue

A young staff of Gwer East local government, identified as Aondona Yaga has set himself ablaze in his house in Aliade town of Gwer East Local Government Area Benue State.

According to eyewitness report, until his death, Aondona was working as a casual staff at the local government secretariat, in Aliade.

Aondona’s grandmother who was seen around his abandoned corpse said, life became very miserable for her grand son who has not been paid his little allowance as a casual staff for close to three years.

According to her, Aondona took ill and kept looking for money to treat himself until he decided that there was no need to be alive anymore where he entered his room and set himself on fire.

The deputy Chairman  of the LG Austin Nemba who confirmed Aondona’s death and status as Casual  staff of the local government to our Correspodent said Aondona was a hard-working and was dedicated to duty, he wonder why he will choose to kill himself 

“Although Aondona was not on the pay list because he is a casual staff, but because of his dedication to duty, I personally use to assist him occasionally, i wonder why of all things he will choose to end his life like this, because the problem of not paying Casual workers is all over the State it is not only peculiar to us here”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Catherine Anene who also confirmed the incedence said the young man committed the act at about 8am in the morning of Tuesday, saying investigation into the matter is in progress.
