The Labour Party has commenced its congresses across the states, with the elections set to hold across all the electoral wards across the country.

The party, in a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the local government congresses would hold on Thursday and state congresses on Saturday at the party’s state offices.

He said that the Abia congress was put on hold after a state High Court in Abia had restrained the party from going ahead with the congress in the state, pending the determination of the charges filed against the state leadership of the party.

“The party has resolved to comply with the order, even though the court lacks the jurisdiction. However, the party’s legal department has already taken steps to vacate the order.

“This will enable Abia to hold its own congress at a later date,” he said.

Mr Ifoh said that the supervision teams sent by the national leadership to some of the venues had returned with positive reports on the progress of the congresses nationwide.

He stated that at a recent NEC meeting reportedly attended by INEC officials, the party had resolved to reposition the party by ensuring that leaders emerged democratically and in line with the Electoral Act.

“Labour Party is therefore calling on Nigerians to embrace the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are repositioning to improve our capacity to drive the leadership of this great nation soon.

“However, we are not unmindful of the activities of the fifth columnists planted within the party to create unnecessary friction and to destabilise the unity in the party.

“While some of them have repented and are being absorbed back into the party, some have nonetheless chosen to stay and continue to play out the script of their paymasters.

“We want to inform them that disseminating falsehood, all in the name of propaganda, is a serious crime,” he said.

Mr Ifoh expressed the Julius Abure leadership of the party’s determination to move the party forward by making it attractive to every Nigerian desirous of leadership role to achieve their political ambition.

“We have therefore taken the painful decision to move on, leaving behind anyone not willing to keep up with the pace.
