Kogi Dep Gov Angry With Deputy Speaker’s Emergence – Sources

There is strong indication that the choice of Alfa Momoh Rabiu from Ankpa 11 state Constituency as the new deputy speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly did not go well with the deputy governor of the state, Chief Edward Onoja.

Recall that three lawmakers, Hon. Ahmed Ahmed former Deputy Speaker from Ankpa 1, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, former Majority Leader and Hon. Moses Ododo, former deputy chief whip were last week impeached and suspended from office till further notice.

However, sources close to Lugard House disclosed that after the impeachment of the former deputy speaker, Ahmed Ahmed, the deputy governor allegedly approached the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello alleging that the choice of Alfa Momoh Rabiu and allowing the Speaker Rt. Honourable Prince Matthew Kolawole to stay in office was not healthy for them.

It was gathered that the deputy governor equally informed the governor not to trust the Speaker and the new deputy speaker and other new principal officers of the house.

The source further alleged that the action of the deputy governor was as a result of his intention to contest the 2023 governor election in the state who was already banking on the deputy speaker for his support especially in Kogi East senatorial district of the state during the 2023 Governorship election in the state.

According to the source, the impeached Deputy Speaker Ahmed Ahmed is very close to Chief Edward Onoja and therefore his removal and suspension from house was a big setback to the deputy governor whose ambition is to become the next governor of the state.
