Coalition of National Election Observers has commended the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) for the smooth conduct of the Local Government Election in the state.
Addressing a press conference in Birnin-Kebbi, the Coordinator, Mr Nuhu Sani Lere said the efforts of KESIEC must be commended for providing enabling environment for the smooth conduct of the local government election which according to them, gave equal opportunity to 18 political parties to participate.
The coalition also commend stakeholders, particularly the security agencies as well as political parties on the way they conducted themselves during the election.
“Let me start by commending the Kebbi State independent electoral commission (KESIEC) for providing enabling environment for the smooth conduct of local government election which gave equal opportunity to 18 political parties to participate in the polls.
“Based on our visit to monitor and observe the election process across the state, I wish to seize this opportunity to commend all stakeholders particularly the security agencies as well as political parties for the orderly manner in which they conducted themselves during the election”.
Similarity, the coalition conceded that it was impressed with the level of turnout and eligibility of voters as women and youths turned out en mass during the exercise.
“It is gratifying to say that, the turnout of eligible voters is quite impressive as women and youths came out en mass to exercise their civic responsibility without any hindrance”.
In addition, the coalition however, recommended that KESIEC should ensure adequate sensitization for all stakeholders on the electioneering process.
“That adequate training by KESIEC is required on time for ad-hoc staff who will conduct the election.
“That there is need for more civil societies and NGOs engagement in the sensitization of the electorate across the state”, it said.
The coalition adjudged the local government election in the state as free, fair, transparent and credible.
“We the coalition of national election observers adjudged the local government election in Kebbi state as free, fair, transparent and credible with the turnout of voters”, it added.
