Jonathan Commissions NNPC/Belemaoil JV’s World-class Water Facility, Generating Set

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, at the weekend commissioned a 350,000 litre capacity industrial-type world-class portable drinking facility and 1,250KVA power generating set at Idama community in Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State.

The two projects were executed by indigenous oil firm, Belemaoil Producing Limited, under the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/ Belemaoil Joint Venture.

Speaking during the event, Jonathan, applauded Belemaoil and it’s joint venture partners for impacting positively on it’s host communities.

The former President, who was represented by Ambassador Godknows Igali, said Belemaoil’s gesture should be a model for other companies operating in the Niger Delta region.

He said: “We appreciate the Founder/President of Belemaoil, JV partners, NNPC for considering it necessary to make such an impact in the community. This is a great model for all other companies in communities that are impacted not necessarily adversely.

“Although, it is very adverse but the companies that are operating in the area to continue to show more footprints in terms of their impacts on the local communities, to work with the local communities to bring more succour to their lives and to join in what government at various levels are doing.

“We specially thank Belemaoil and we hope and pray that this will be a model for all other companies. We appreciate the Idama Community for creating the right environment for such intervention and we hope that this will attract more projects to this community.”

In his speech, Founder/President of Belemaoil Producing Limited, Engr. Tien Jackrich, expressed gratitude to the management of NNPC for it’s support towards the actualization of the two projects.

Jackrich said: “We are grateful that the management of NNPC is supportive and we say, if other operators can support the local communities the business ventures and the communities will always be at peace because when a mind is not engaged, it will engage itself.”

The Belemaoil boss called on the people of Niger Delta to come together to rally round what they have in order to produce what they need, urging them to always celebrate who they are.

He said: “We have great sons and daughters from our region who are doing exploits but one thing I want appeal to our youths in the region, elders, chiefs, those in the public or private sector and those in diaspora, we must get together to rally round what we have in other to produce what we need.

“Stop getting scared in celebrating whom you are because that’s your true identity and that’s your personality and assurance of self-dignity. Nobody will celebrate you if you fail to celebrate whom you are.”

In his remarks, General Manager of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Bala Wunti, said the completion and commissioning of the projects were in furtherance of the corporate social responsibility initiatives of the Nigerian government through its oil and gas sector.

Wunti, who was represented by Mrs. Clementina Arubi said: “The completion and commissioning of this project in Idama Community in Akukutoru Local Government Area of River State is in furtherance of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the Nigerian Government through its Oil and Gas sector.

“In NNPC, our vision for social intervention is to continue to operate in an ethical and sustainable manner and deal with the environment and social impacts occasioned by our activities.
