Some members of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) are
engaged in the issuance of fake vehicle particulars to unsuspected members, it has been uncovered.
It was gathered that the staff are perpetrating the act outside the capital city of Kaduna, thereby denying the state government revenue.
The act, which is being perpetrated at some local government offices,
has led to some officials issuing ‘cover notes’ to some of their victims.
Officials of the Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) said they uncovered countless fake vehicle particulars through their QR code scanner.
While causioning members of the public to ensure they follow proper
channels in the registration of their vehicles, KASTELEA officials
said they won’t spare anyone with fake particulars.
It was gathered that the revenue officials in some local governments
have issued countless fake vehicle particulars and in some cases
collecting money from drivers without updated particulars and issuing
them with ‘cover note’.
“We have been arresting people with fake vehicle particulars using our
QR code scanner. Those with cover note, we arrest them too because if
there is a problem with payment platform or printing of vehicle
particulars in a place, the office would notify us being a sister
agency doing enforcement. Once we are notified, when we see any cover
note, we will understand,” a KASTELEA official said.
Meanwhile, top officials of KADIRS have expressed shock over the
nefarious act and promised to carry out discreet investigations in the
affected local government areas.
