As a reward for intergrity and meritorious serviceĀ  to their community, State and nation, the Sarkin Wurno Sudan, Alhaji Kabiru Chigari Alhassan has turbaned retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Abubakar (Habu) Ahmad Sani and eight other illustrious sons of the district.

The event which happened at the Sarkin Sudan’s palace, was graced by traditional leaders, clerics, top government functionaries, security chiefs and dignitaries from within and outsideĀ  Sokoto state.

Calling the event aā€œhistoric royal honour”, the Sarkin Sudan in his welcome address, praised the honourees as men of integrity, discipline, and patriotism who have demonstrated exceptionally commendable leadership in public service and community development.

While stressing that the recognition was a symbol of the district’s pride and a call to greater responsibility, the Sarkin Sudan of Wurno, affirmed that all the recipients have left lasting legacies of selfless services that would be remembered in the anals of the human society.

Clad with traditional regalia that symbolizes honour, authority, and guardianship,
one the foremost honouree, DIG Abubakar Sani (retd)Ā  was conferred with the revered title of Tafidan Wurno.

Referring to DIG Sani as a rare patriot whose 32 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force were defined by dedication to safeguarding lives, strengthening intelligence-led policing, and fostering national security, Sarkin Sudan of Wurno, said the DIG have contributed immensely to humanity.

Other distinguished recipients included Dr. Lawal Muhammad Umar (Wakilin Wurno), Engr. Dr. Yakub Usman (Tafarkin Wurno), Engr. Dr. Buhari Abubakar (Sarkin Kudu), and Alhaji Sidi Hamza (Sarkin Shariffan Wurno).

Additional honourees were Alhaji Sidi Mu’azu (Dan Dangaladima Sarkin Shariffai), Alhaji Tahir Aliyu Shariff (Sarkin Larabawan Wurno), and Alhaji Musa Marnona (Zannan Wurno), each recognized for their individual contributions in education, philanthropy, public service, and grassroots development.

The DIG, Abubakar Sani born on April 7, 1964 hails from the Karhi (Hakimi) Gidan Bango ruling family of Wurno. After completing his primary and secondary education, he proceeded toĀ  Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1990 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Education) in Geography before joining the Nigeria Police in 1992.

During his distinguished career, he served as Commissioner of Police in Bauchi and Kano States, Assistant Inspector General at the Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters, and later rose to Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Intelligence before retiring honourably.

In his appreciation of the honour, theĀ  DIGĀ  expressed profound gratitude to the Sarkin Sudan and the entire people of Wurno, pledging to redouble his efforts in youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and grassroots development.

In his advise to the youths, DIG Sani appealed to them to embrace discipline, education, and hard work, assuring them that the district would continue to produce citizens of high integrity and moral standings that l would serve Nigeria with dignity.

The event featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional music, and a grand procession through Wurno, with residents chanting solidarity songs and offering prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.

Community leaders and clerics hailed the turbaning as timely and inspirational, stressing that in a period of national challenges, celebrating moral icons and role models is essential in rebuilding hope and strengthening social values.
