Insecurity; Organization Train Locals On Conflict Management, Resolution In Benue

Over Ninety People across Six Communities in Three selected Local Governments affected by crises in Benue State have been trained by a Kaduna based non governmental Organization known as Development and Peace Initiative ( DPI) on conflict Management and Resolution.

The Manager of the project promoting Religious Freedom in local Communities, Emmanuel Tagwai who disclosed this during a town hall meeting in Abinsi community in Guma LG area of Benue State explained that the programme which is being implemented in Four states of Benue, Kaduna, Plateau and the boundary Communities between Kaduna and Bauchi to promote unity among members of crises prone Communities.

He said, “The project which is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is aim at training and teaching community members how to identify early warnings of conflict, prevent, manage and respond to it maximally to douse tension”

According to Tagwai, we have set Community structures which we call it Community Peace Advocate which will help in identifying early warnings, management and prevention of conflict by promoting peaceful coexistence among members of the communities.

While calling on the Government at all levels as well as stakeholders in the State to sustained the project in the event of their exit for a harmonious coexistence of the people, the programme manager commended all stakeholders in the affected Communities for accepting the implementation of the project and training of their members which has succeeded in dousing tension.

In their separate addresses, the kindred heads of the Tiv Community in Abinsi Zaki Mathew Aboh and Alhaji Labaran Danbala all lamented the absence of government present in Abinsi Community saying, this is not good for a community with large population, adding that the only public school that was allocated to the them by the first Civilian Governor of the State was taken away by succeeding administrations.

“We are really backward in Abinsi Community we don’t have schools whether primary or secondary here the only school here is a primary School build by community efforts, we don’t even have a hospital here the only hospital here is build by the church, so we are appealing to Government at all levels to come to our aid”

Earlier, the representatives of Jamaatul Nasarul Islam who is also the Chief Imam of Abinsi Central mosque Mallam Garba Hassan and the Pastor in charge of the Christian Reform Church of Nigeria Rev Obidience Musa promise to continue to preach peace in all their religious gatherings.

Rev. Musa also promise to organize a summit where he will preach against tribalism, respect for other people’s religion and as well organized a football tournament that will bring youths together for peace to reign.
