Frontline civil rights advocacy group- HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has accused the military formations in the South East of Nigeria of collusion with armed Fulani attackers who are now scaling up their coordinated criminal terrorism against the Igbo speaking people of Nigeria.
HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has condemned the incessant kidnapping of Students and tea hers of the Abia State University by armed Fulani attackers who are very likely taking refuge in a community at the Enugu/Okigwe Federal High Way which has become the hotbed of terrorism and a killing field of citizens of South East of Nigeria.
“The 82 division of the Nigerian Army and the military formations in Owerri, Abia and Anambra States combined their forces to go after the members of the vigilante group known as the Eastern Security Network set up by concerned youth of the South East of Nigeria and now that these vigilante members are crushed and disempowered the dreaded armed Fulani militia are back at work in the different parts of the South East of Nigeria, killing, maiming, raping and kidnapping Students and the latest being the kidnapping of students of the Abia State University in Uturu near Okigwe and this is not the first nor is it the second time but yet the entire military forces that were mobilised to exterminate the Eastern Security Network have conveniently gone to bed whilst these evil people are back at work of terrorism in Igbo heartland. We call on the governments of the South East of Nigeria to wake up from slumber and arm their respective Security vigilante to go after these armed Fulani attackers who are killing the Igbo speaking people of Nigeria”.
HURIWA recalled that gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, Saturday evening reportedly kidnapped yet-to-be determined number of students of the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) Abia State and robbed many passengers and motorists en-route to Owerri from Enugu and from Okigwe town to Abia, respectively.
Four students of Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu were reportedly hit by the suspects stray bullets around Ihube road in Okigwe Local Government Area, Imo State.
Three students, who are between the ages of 14 and 16, sustained different degrees of injuries while one was confirmed dead in the course of the robbery attack.
It was gathered that the surviving three are still receiving treatment at the moment.
An eyewitness told the media that there were other travelers who also ran into the robbers but it is not yet clear the actual number of persons whisked away by the yet-to be apprehended herdsmen.
HURIWA specifically blames the Federal government of Nigeria and the Armed Forces of Nigeria of collusion with the armed Fulani militia otherwise what is the logic for killing off the armed members of the Eastern Security Network who were targeting the wiping out of armed Fulani terrorists? “HURIWA is calling on the international community to mount pressure on the Federal Government to stop the active support they give to rogue elements who are armed herdsmen causing commotion and killing citizens in all parts of the Country. The governors of the South East of Nigeria are by this public notice tasked to defend their people or Tey should quit their offices if they will prefer to take no concrete steps yo stop the incessant attacks of armed Fulani attackers Al over the South East of Nigeria. “
