HURIWA Tasks ICPC To Prosecute Erstwhile DG Of NABDA Or Face The Consequences

By Musa Sunusi Ahmad

There is a serious allegation that the disgraced Ag DG of NABDA Prof Alex Akpa alleged influenced some ranking officials of the ICPC (INDEPENDENT CORRUPT PRAXTICES AND OTHER OFFENCES COMMISSION)  to secure his release after he was initially arrested for grave allegations over the misuse or outright theft of over N400m of public fund. We will leave no stone unturned in ferreting out and publishing the names of the ICPC officials alleged to have colluded with Prof Akpa to secure his release and why the matter has not been charged to court. We are thus putting the ICPC on notice that there will be consequences for its alleged collusion with the suspect and the various on-going schemes to suppress vital information, doctor investigative sheet and file records and compromise the investigation. We expect the ICPC to provide clarifications on these allegations.

We call on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami SAN  to set up a task team to look into the alleged collusion between the disgrace DG of NABDA and officials of the ICPC over the N400m missing public fund as further delay will cast a serious shadow into the efficiency of his office  and that of the Accountant General of the Federation to publish its detailed report on this matter without delay. We also call the minister of science and technology to make public all findings on the matter unless he want the public to believe that he is covering up such an alleged huge monumental corruption by one of his ministry’s high officials.

The ICPC is thereby notified that if by next week ‘s Tuesday the said Prof Alex Akpa is not re-arrested, arraigned  and properly charged for the alleged offences on theft and abuse of office  we will be left no choice than to mobilize a coalition of civil society groups, to work out possible strategies to either picket the ICPC premises and engage in other forms mass action until they do the needful or we petition President Muhammadu Buhari.  This course of action will commence on next Wednesday.

The administration leadership of NABDA is also put on notice that it cannot continue to shield Prof Akpan from the long arm of the law or help him in thwarting the course of justice. To this effect the premises of NABDA will be picketed on a continuous basis from Tuesday  until it gives up the alleged runaway fugitive to face the full force of justice for his alleged criminal breach of public trust or we mobilize the CSO community in Nigeria to blacklist National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) as a harbinger of MASSIVE CORRUPRION AND COVER UPS.
