The former Executive Chairman, Jema’a Local Government Area, Hon Peter Danjuma Averik has said that only sincere reconciliation and forgiveness have the tendency of freeing the heart of all form of bitterness and restrengthening the bond of unity and love among disputing communities.
The former Chairman stated this during the unveiling and handing over of houses built by Nigeria Early Recovery Initiative (NERI) by the to the displaced Fulanis from Kussom Village in Kagoma Chiefdom to Ugwan Gwandara, Godogodo Chiefdom in Jema’a Local Government.
Hon Peter Averik said as the initiator of the reconciliation process between Ungwan Bido and their displaced Fulani neighbors, he was happy that the Program outlived his tenure and culminated to building a more befitting settlement for the affected Fulanis and the renovation of the burnt houses in Ugwan Bido. as well as the provision of Solarised Street lights, Portable drinking water and training of community Neighbourhood Watch volunteers in both communities among others.
He commended Ugwan Bido and the Fulani communities for embracing dialogue to resolve their differences and advised them to reciprocate the gesture done to them by living in peace with one another, noting that we are one big family under God despite our seemingly tribal and religious differences.
Hon Averik reiterated his commitment even after office to support all genuine efforts geared towards the advancement of peace and inter communal harmony in Jema’a Local Government.
He again commended USAID/OTI-NERI for their activities in the Local Government especially in the areas of strengthening community security and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable victims of conflict and urged other related organizations to emulate them.
Hon Peter Averik commended the Governor of Kaduna state Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai for providing a conducive environment for Civil Societies and other development partners like USAID/OTI-NERI to operate in the State, adding that Jema’a Local Government has benefitted immensely from the initiative.
He again thanked the state Emmergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), the Southern Kaduna Joint Peace Committee (SKJPC),and Fantsuwam Foundation for their relentless commitment in the peace building activities which he said has contributed a lot to fast track the healing processes and reconciliations between Ugwan Bido community and their Fulani neighbors.
Dignitaries who attended the occasion include the acting Governor of kaduna state , Hajiya Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe represented by the Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs, mr Samuel Aruwan , the state Commissioner of Police Mudassiru Abdullahi among others.
