Habu Gumel, president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has won the Sky Sports Nigeria Personality of the year 2019/2020 award.
Sunny Gullong, the chairman, Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club also received the soccer ambassador award.
Moses Ebahor, marketing consultant of Sky Sports, who presented the awards to the recipients alongside Prof. Felix Okokhere, the patron of Miss Nigeria Initiative, said the duo have been recognised for their contributions to sports development in the country.
“ Gumel has done so much for Nigerian sports and even as president of NOC, we have seen his contributions to the success of our athletes in international events.
“While he was at the National Lottery Trust Fund, he was donating sporting equipment to various schools in different states.
“Now, at the NOC, we know and believe that under his watch, Nigeria will not just compete at the Olympics, but will return will medals.
“For, this reason and more, we are honouring him with the award of Sky Sports Personality of the year2019/2020,’’ he said.
Receiving the plaque, Gumel said the award was for the Olympic movement in the country.
“This award is not just for me alone; it is for all the people in the Olympic movement. It is a very important award and I collected it on behalf of the Olympic Committee.
“It is important because it shows that we are making progress and that is the reason why they decided to single us out and give us this award.
“So, we appreciate and thank them for it,’’ Gumel added.
On his part, Gullong thanked the media house for the honour.
“I feel great. I have worked for it, if I didn’t work for it I probably would not have accepted this award.
“But I appreciate Sky Sports for recognising our efforts,’’ Gullong added.
