Greater-Igbo Forum Reacts To Outcome of Igbo Leaders Meeting

Sequel to the emergency security meeting held on Tuesday in Enugu by Igbo leaders and stakeholders, the Greater Igbo Forum, has slammed the Igbo leaders for excluding Nnadi Kanu case out of the issues discussed at the meeting.

The forum said that the South East region, are very disappointed with the inability of the Meeting to address the Fundamental Cause of the breakdown of Law and Order that we are suffering in South East – The continuous incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

They said, “As we have been consistently campaigning, an injury to one, is an injury to all. Our brother and son that has been languishing in DSS detention, deserves active sympathies from his kinsmen.

“We expected the Meeting to have extensively discussed his predicament. In the true Igbo spirit of “onye aghana nwanne ya,” and “Igwebuike;” an average Igbo person, expected our Leaders to have updated us on their plans of how to engage the Federal Government in Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“It was extremely disappointing when the eight points Communique came out without a single mention of our brother’s case.

“For the records, which is also easily verifiable, the deteriorating security in South East region, is fundamentally attached to Nnamdi Kanu’s detention; which is also a direct spite on the sensibility of the Igbo people in Nigeria.”

The group noted that Igbo are being marginalized, adding that the Meeting alluded to that fact.

According to them, Nnamdi Kanu has been kicking against the marginalization in his own way. Instead of the Federal Government to see reasons with his morally justified agitations, they decided to go after him, thereby adding insult to injury. An insult to the collective Psyche of Ndigbo.

Saying further that GIF will never kowtow to such brazen humiliation of the entire Ndigbo, no matter who is involved.

Even for the interest of One Nigeria, we can never accept a broad daylight humiliation of our son, not to talk of a brave man that has been fighting for the interest of Ndi Igbo. His methodology may not be acceptable to all, but he is a bonafide Igbo son, and also a vigorous campaigner for a better deal for Ndi Igbo. GIF can never subscribe to any move that does not address this very issue.

They call on the Leaders to meet again and demand for the unconditional and immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu; and for a switch to political resolution of the case.

Dialogue is always more effective and cheaper than grandstanding. Our Igbo leaders need to wake up, before South East becomes another North East.

“If the Yoruba Leaders can rally behind Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho, if the likes of Sheikh Gumi and other northern leaders are openly canvassing for a better deal for the likes of bandits and terrorists, why can’t Igbo leaders join their voices and demand for Nnamdi Kanu’s release?

“A stitch in time, saves nine, hence this important suggestion from us. Let us quit deceiving ourselves, despite the crushing socioeconomic pains associated with the sit-at-home orders and other rising insecurity in South East region, if the Root Cause is not addressed, we would continue in this ignominious vicious circle.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should be freed. Sincere Dialogue/Diplomacy, should be employed in resolving the problems in South East.

“GIF is ready to collaborate with any and all relevant stakeholders that can work for a return of Peace and Normalcy in Igbo land. We call on our Leaders to show more assertive leadership examples that is people oriented,” they stated.
