Golf Tournaments Boost Hospitality Industry – Magashi

Golf tournament has being identified as an avenue to develop hospitality and tourism industry.

Kano Golf Club Captain, Alhaji Ali Muhammad Magashi stated this on Sunday while speaking to journalists at the Captain’s inaugural tournament and prizes presentation to Golfers .

Alhaji Ali Muhammad Magashi said the event that had 281 golfers from across the country enhanced the hospitality industry in Kano as major hotels and other businesses thrive in the state during the period.

The Kano Golf club established in 1908 making it the oldest in the whole of West Africa , having been established after the conquest of Kano by the then Royal West African Frontier.

He said the inaugural tournament was supposed to hold in April after their election into management committee of Kano Golf Club but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was shifted.

Alhaji Ali Muhammad Magashi explained that since the election of the new management about 6 months ago, there has been a lot of turn around in terms of infrastructural development to encourage golfers and make the environment conducive for conduct of the game.

‘’Despite the COVID-19 pandemic lock down, we were able to achieve some modest development that include, complete refurbishment and furnishing of the club house, building and furnishing of a new committee complex with lounge, committee meeting room, manager’s office , secretary office and captain’s office,’’ said Ali Magashi.

‘’We built new showers and toilets for the convenience of our ladies and gentlemen; most importantly we have continue to maintain and improve the play-ability of our golf course of about 22 hectares despite the heavy down pour in the last few weeks.’’


Alhaji Ali Magashi appreciated the good sportsmanship displayed by all the golfers in different categories of the 3 days tournament noting that the support of the sponsors also made the occasion eventful.

On his part , an elated Kano Club President, Alhaji Bala Muhammad Inuwa said the tournament has is returning back the lost glory of the club couple with the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the golf section of the Kano club is very vibrant urging other sections such as Tennis and Dart to emulate so as to serve as cynosure to other clubs in the country.

Prizes were won by the golfers in different categories of the tournament.
