The Global Alliance for Peace and Unity (GAPU) has partnered with Hon. J.J Umaru, a Member of the House of Representatives for the Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency, in an effort to promote and sustain peace across Nigeria.
The collaboration, led by GAPU President Solomon Pevkyaa, highlights the organization’s commitment to addressing growing tensions and fostering long-lasting harmony in the country.
During a visit to Hon. Umaru, President Pevkyaa expressed concern over the destruction of properties during youth-led protests, calling for more constructive ways to address grievances.
“Peace and unity are more expensive than anything,” Pevkyaa emphasized, urging Nigerians to safeguard national harmony amid social unrest.
Hon. Umaru, celebrated as a “unifying factor” for his community and the country at large, was commended for his transparent and inclusive leadership.
In recognition of his efforts, GAPU awarded him a certificate of commendation, honoring him as a “Peace and Unity Advocate.” He was also decorated as an icon of peace and youth empowerment, underscoring his significant contributions to national unity.
Accepting the recognition, Hon. Umaru reaffirmed his belief that “there is no substitute for peace and unity.”
He pointed to a lack of fairness and transparency as root causes of unrest in Nigeria, vowing to continue championing these values.
His commitment to fair leadership, he noted, has even led opposition members to join his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Umaru’s numerous initiatives, including youth empowerment programs, educational improvements, and the construction of a senior citizen center in Akwanga, further underscore his dedication to his constituency.
“Peace is a collective responsibility,” he said, calling on all Nigerians to join in promoting national harmony.
Looking ahead, Hon. Umaru will host the 2024 Peace and Unity Summit, organized by GAPU.
The event will bring together leaders and advocates to discuss sustainable peacebuilding strategies, marking a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s efforts to resolve conflicts and ensure long-term stability.
