Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to financial discipline, emphasising that the prudent management of public resources is central to his leadership.

He disclosed that prior to the period of emergency rule, over ₦300 billion was held in the state’s coffers, adding that upon his return, he found a balance of approximately ₦600 billion.

Fubara assured that within six months, his administration would provide clear and verifiable evidence detailing how public funds are being utilised.

He made this declaration during the commissioning of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road, a crucial link connecting long-neglected communities in Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.

Fubara dismissed misconceptions regarding the management of state funds, attributing them in part to his deliberate choice to execute projects without ostentatious public flag-off ceremonies.

He noted that numerous projects with significant benefits are currently underway across the state, in addition to those being commissioned.

The Governor maintained that his administration’s records on accountability and financial management are impeccable, asserting that no fair-minded observer could question its transparency.

He emphasised that every available resource is being utilised strictly in the interest of Rivers State and its people, assuring that the visible transformation across the state is proof of prudent and responsible governance.

According to him, the Obodhi-Ozochi road project was initially initiated by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as a political incentive to garner support during the 2023 general elections, facilitated by a former lawmaker and his former Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.

The Rivers leader stated that Ehie executed this task effectively, necessitating not only the completion of the road but also its expansion beyond the original design.

Consequently, the project was extended by an additional 4.2 kilometres, bringing its total length to 14.2 kilometres.

The Governor also promptly approved the community’s request for the construction of internal roads.

He urged Edison Ehie to transform the substantial turnout witnessed at the commissioning event into sustained political support for President Bola Tinubu, noting that such overwhelming backing would greatly facilitate the President’s re-election campaign.
