Forum Urges FG, Security Agencies To Stop Planned Meeting By Independence Agitators

The Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) has urged the  Federal Government and  security agencies  to take urgent steps to stop the alleged planned meeting by  some self acclaimed Yoruba independence agitators and freedom fighters.

The Forum’s National Coordinator, Chief  Adesina Animashaun, stated this  in a statement he  issued to newsmen in Lagos on Monday.

Animashahun said that YAF gathered through intelligence that the agitators and their sponsors were planning a meeting for Thursday, saying that its outcome might heat up the polity.

He said, “Government must not watch idly as the enemies of the country hide under self determination to undermine the sovereignty of the country.

“A stitch in time, they say, saves nine.

“They must not be allowed to engage in activities that are not only inimical, but also injurious to the continued corporate existence of the entire Nigerian nation,

“The forum warns that indications are now very clear that if prompt action is not taken, these unpatriotic elements will throw the South-West into an unprecedented wave of violence under the guise of fighting and agitating for Yoruba freedom and self-determination.

“It is, therefore, imperative for the Federal Government to nip in the bud the burgeoning insurrection now threatening to arise from the South-West under such a smokescreen.’’

Animasahun said that the country fighting another rebellion from the South West would be one crisis too many for a country.

He said that the country was still struggling to combat the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, banditry and cattle rustling in the North West and North Central areas as well the current IPOB militancy in the South-East and South-South.

Animashahun said he had led the members of YAF on continued sensitisation of the South West to condemn plans by some individuals and groups to attack security agents and formations in the South-West.

He urged Nigerians, the Federal and state  governments as well as security agencies to immediately take appropriate actions to nip in the bud any suspected  evil plans by any individuals or groups against any part of the country. (NAN)
