The founder and coordinator of FCT Working Team for Men and Women Association, Mrs Deborah Shebegeni Isaac, has described the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) as overwhelming.
According to Deborah, the emergence of Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu as AMAC Chairman-elect is historical, overwhelming, and a huge success to democracy.
In a chat with Elanza News in Abuja, Deborah said, she was overwhelmed with joy and happiness over the landslide victory of the party in AMAC and other area councils.
“I feel so happy and excited, I am so proud, I am elated for the victorious victory of Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu and that of our great party PDP.
“Infact, I don’t have enough words to tell you or to describe to you how I feel”, she said.
She equally described Hon. Christopher as a humble adding that he is a man of wisdom, a true leader, a listener, a detribalised and a man of the people.
“My chairman is a very humble man, a man full of wisdom, a true leader, he is a listener, a detribalised and a man of the people”.
Deborah, however, advised the newly elected chairman not to allow deceivers around him adding that he should continue to carry the people along.
“It is part of his life style to carry the people along especially women and youths,” Deborah said.
The group leader maintained that women and youth always contribute immensely during elections adding that they are the voting strength.
“Women are creative and innovative. Ttherefore, they should be empowered and be given equal opportunities in order to change the society,” Deborah said.
“I want to advice him (Hon. Christopher) not to forget the women and youth who fought vigorously for his victory. He shouldn’t allow anybody to deceive him but should carry everybody along. This has been part of his lifestyle, so he should continue with it.
“If you visited all the polling units in FCT during this election you will discover that the turnout of women was unprecedented and superceded that of our men. We are always more in number when it comes to election.
“So, Hon. Christopher, should remember the women who struggled to ensure that he emerged. He should understand that we are equally creative and innovative. He should empower us through skill acquisition so that our society can be better”, she added.
Meanwhile, Deborah said FCT Working Team for Men and Women Association was founded to serve as an advocacy group that would fight for the rights of women and to ensure that they are carried along in governance and for political appointments. Also, to create awareness for women so that they can fight for their right and to participate actively in politics.
“This association was created to advocate and to fight for the right of women. To also ensure that our women actively involve in politics, government and to be appointed into political positions. We are fighting for women inclusiveness in all the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory”, she said.
