Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has expressed the willingness of his administration to concession the about-to-be-completed Karu and Lafia mega bus stops, to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.
Engineer Sule made this known while hosting officials and members of the NURTW who were on a thank-you visit, at the Government House, on Friday.
The Governor who expressed delight over the visit by the union members, said even though his administration will set up an agency that will supervise the two modern bus stops, it’s unlikely that government will run the motor parks.
For that reason, Engineer Sule added that after establishing the agency, government will prefer the NURTW take over the running of the two bus stops, as according to him, the union is in a better position to run the facilities efficiently.
The Governor assured that his administration and the NURTW, will enter into an agreement that will be mutually beneficial. He however warned that any act capable of breaching such agreement, will not be condoned.
Engineer Sule said even though two private firms have since written, seeking to manage the two facilities, he however preferred that the NURTW take charge of the facilities.
According to the Governor, the two modern bus stops have facilities ranging from a ticketing area, lounge for drivers, loading bay, filling station, mechanical workshop, toilet facilities and a banking area.
He however urged members of the NURTW to desist from illegal parking, especially oil tankers that indiscriminately park in public spaces.
The Governor used the opportunity to thank the union members for the support they gave his immediate past predecessor, as well as during the 2019 general election, promising to fulfil all the campaign promises he made to the union.
Engineer Sule equally used the opportunity to emphasize on the need for peaceful coexistence, adding that whenever he raises alarm on the incursion of bandits into the state, he is doing so merely to ensure there is no breach in security across the state.
Earlier, state Chairman of the NURTW, Alhaji Salihu Adamu, thank the Engineer Sule administration for embarking on projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the members of the union, especially the two modern bus stops in Karu and Lafia, among others.
Alhaji Adamu said they were at the Government House to thank the Governor for carrying members of the union along in his programmes and policies.
