In a commendable display of unity and cooperation, the Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) successfully mediated a recent altercation between DRTS and Civil Defence staff during a joint operation.
Contrary to previous reports of a senior DRTS staff member clashing with a junior Civil Defence officer at the Head of Service Gate, the situation was amicably resolved through internal communication between the two agencies. It is not uncommon for disagreements to arise in the line of duty, and this incident was no exception.
The confrontation occurred when the Civil Defence officer intercepted operatives from the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and unintentionally disrespected the Development Control Director. This, in turn, provoked the senior DRTS staff member. It’s important to note that the Civil Defence officer was unaware of the director’s status and inadvertently made a comment that led to a heated exchange.
Both the DRTS and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are part of the same ministerial task force and operate jointly. Even close siblings can have their differences, and this incident is a testament to that fact. However, it is heartening to report that a truce has been established to prevent such incidents in the future.
The relationship between the DRTS and NSCDC remains strong, and both institutions will continue to collaborate in various areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
